About Our Practice

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art, compassionate care for patients with arthritis, autoimmune diseases, osteoporosis, and other rheumatic diseases. After ensuring that you have an accurate diagnosis, we work with you to develop an individualized treatment program that best meets your personal needs and philosophy. Our goal is to ensure that you are a full participant in your family, work, and recreational activities.

Our History

Healing for Over 50 Years

Founded in 1968 by Dr. Howard Levine, the Center for Rheumatic Diseases and Osteoporosis was the first rheumatology practice established in Montgomery County. We have cared for more than 100,000 patients referred by hundreds of physicians. Our patients come from as far north as Gettysburg, PA, from as far east as Annapolis and Delaware, and from D.C. and many counties in Virginia.

We participate with almost all locally available medical insurance plans including Medicare, Aetna, all Care First products including Blue Choice, United Healthcare including all Mamsi products, Johns Hopkins health plans, Cigna, OneNet PPO, and Adventist Healthnet. We are committed to continuing participation in as many insurance plans as possible, to allow continuity of care for our patients.

We are an integrated medical practice providing a full range of services to patients with rheumatic disorders and/or osteoporosis, including physician consultations and ongoing care for rheumatic diseases; DXA scan interpretation and physician consultation and ongoing care for osteoporosis; and on-site infusion therapy and laboratory blood drawing facilities.

New Covid-19 Office Policies

To our valued patients,

In order to protect our patients and staff, and as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19 in the community, we have put in place several new office policies:

  • Everyone entering our office MUST WEAR a face mask. We apologize that we are unable to supply masks to patients at this time, due to the national shortage. Click here for a quick and excellent video from the Surgeon General on how to make one.
  • Please DO NOT visit our office if you have fever, OR respiratory symptoms such as cough, OR symptoms of a gastrointestinal illness, OR if, in the past 14 days, you have had close contact with someone who has had Covid, OR if you have recently traveled to an area that has had significant Covid infection. If any of these applies, please call to reschedule your appointment or infusion, or to schedule a televisit.
  • In order to practice social distancing in the office, we have markedly restricted our number of in-office doctor’s appointments. Most visits are being conducted by TELEVISIT through the Healow app, or through the Backline platform that works on any browser. Please see Office News on our website home page for more details, after you close this window, and please call our staff with any questions about televisits.
  • We are FULLY OPEN for INFUSION THERAPY without interruption, and we recommend that you continue your infusion therapy on your regular schedule. For your convenience and safety, we offer CURBSIDE CHECK-IN: when you arrive in our parking garage, call the office, and the staff will let you know when your infusion chair is open and ready for you (usually there is no wait). We practice careful social distancing and frequent sterile cleaning in the infusion suite, and masks must be worn by all patients and staff at all times throughout the office, including in the infusion suite.

More details about our Covid-19 policies can be found under Office News on the home page of the website, after you close this window. We appreciate you, and value the trust you have placed in our practice in seeking medical care with us. We welcome any questions you have about any of our office policies, either by phone call, or by portal message. For more information about Covid-19 from the CDC, visit www.cdc.gov.
